The Dirt de Femme's vision is to create a fun, competitive atmosphere for women and school girls to participate in a mountain bike event without feeling pressured to race. It is important that women and girls are challenged and they finish with a sense of achievement, feeling satisfied with their accomplishment. Our target is to encourage women and girls into the sport of mountain biking and allow their competitiveness to come out without feeling intimidated by riding next to men. The 2015 event will also introduce cash prizes attracting the Elite women riders. We are also offering discounted entry fees to encourage those who are 18 years and under.
The Dirt de Femme Series is not just a race but an experience. There are many ladies out there who consider themselves mountain bike riders rather than racers. However, a race can be intimidating and for many of us we enjoy the comparison effort of being challenged in a competitive environment rather than a race environment.
2018 will be the Dirt de Femme's 9th event. Participant numbers for a single event have increased from 87 in 2012 to 204 in 2017. In 2014 overall involvement and attendance at the event including organisers, volunteers, sponsors and spectators was approximately 450. Our aim is to increase rider participation in 2016 by 10% giving a total rider participation of 200+ and raising community involvement to over 500 persons.
